BRUIN NOTES
  • UCLA has won 10 straight games in a season for only the second time in school history. In 1946, UCLA won all 10 regular-season games but lost in the Rose Bowl. The Bruins also won 10 in a row in 1954-55. In 1954, UCLA won all nine of its games, capturing a share of the National Championship, and won its opener in 1955.
  • The victory in the Cotton Bowl gave UCLA a 10-win season for only the fifth time in school history - 1946, 1982, 1987, 1988 and 1997.
  • UCLA allowed 94 fewer points during the regular season than in 1996. In fact, its average of 20.4 points allowed ranked second in the Pac-10 and is its best since 1993 (19.2).

  • UCLA forced 39 turnovers (second to Wyoming's 42) in 11 regular-season games, an average of 3.5 per contest. In 1996, the Bruins forced just 22 in 11 games, an average of 2.0 per outing.
